OPPOSITION MOTM – D.Mackenzie
A beautiful sunny day saw Postal take on Newburgh at Kaimhill due to Webster Park being unavailable. Newburgh have beaten Postal twice already so a tough match was on the cards.
Postal made some enforced changes from the Burghmuir game, the most notable moving Carter into a centre midfield role.
Postal started the game really well but it was the away side who were unlucky not to be awarded a pen 3 minutes into the game when it looked like Macrae had taken down a Newburgh player in the box.
The opening half hour of this match saw Postal dominate, although the number 10 for Newburgh would occasionally cause problems with his pace bursting into the box.
On 16 minutes MacDonald intercepted a thrown in near the Newburgh box. The resultant cross into the box saw Mackenzie shoot just wide.
Ten minutes later Mackenzie won the ball, raced forward and played in Clark but his shot went just wide of the post.
One 29 minutes the away side took the lead against the run of play. A simple enough looking shot from distance saw keeper Cormack try to palm the ball down, but instead palmed the ball into his bottom corner. 0-1.
Postal continued to dominate the half but couldn’t create the chances to equalise.
HALF TIME – Postal ALC 0 – Newburgh 1
The first ten minutes of the second half saw more good work by Postal as they continued trying to get the equaliser. Unfortunately that was as good as it got.
Ten minutes into the second half, Postal lost the ball in midfield. One long ball over the top of the Postal defence saw MacDonald’s man run in behind and slotted home. Good finish but slack slack defending from a defence which had looked comfortable in the previous hour. 0-2.
On 28 minutes the away team scored the killer 3rd goal. A long ball from the keeper. The Postal defence allowed it to bounce in behind them 3 times before the striker scored from inside the box. Grim defending from a defence which looked like they were scared of heading the ball. 0-3.
5 minutes later Postal got one back. A decent Abel cross saw Bruce Webster head home. Brave headed goal which the taller boys in the team could learn from. 1-3.
Just before the end of the match Postal conceded a 4th. Mackenzie gave the ball away in the opposition half. He then did well to win it back, before giving it straight back to them. Another long ball in behind the square Postal defence and another goal after the attacker cut in from behind Stuart. 1-4.
Final Result – Postal ALC 1 – Newburgh 4
Overall, a very similar game to the last time we played Newburgh at home. Postal very good for an hour. Newburgh very direct. Postal then falling apart, defensively, for the last half hour making the scoreline look worse than they had actually performed.
